You can help restore and preserve the Memorial to WWI American Aviators at Issoudun, France! Come on, be part of it! Show them you care! On Our Memorial Wall you can read about the memorial and our adopted WWI Airman, Raymond Runner, who gave his life at this airfield. This monument bears the names of 171 American servicemen that died during WWI at the largest aerodrome in the world at the time. Every American WWI Ace passed through this facility at one time or another including, Eddie Rickenbacker, Quentin Roosevelt, Frank Luke, and Raoul Lufbery, as well as thousands of other airmen. The small town of Paudy, located near the monument, restored it in 2006, which was built by the French in 1920. They need our help to continue their work and add to the site. With a population of only 458 they have limited financial means and can use our donations. We encourage you to donate any amount. You can do so by sending a check, made out to: Mail to: Mairie de Paudy, Or if you wish you can make a donation right here and we will mail them all together with our donation. This way you can donate anything you want. We will then acknowledge your donation with your name on our “3rd Aviation Instruction Center Monument Donations” wall on our website. On June 28th, 2009 the French will hold a re-dedication ceremony for the monument described below: “This Franco-American event will serve as an occasion to remember our American friends and the historic alliance which has united France and the United States since their foundation with the same ideas regarding liberty and progress. I submit to you that this alliance remains lively and strong.” The event of June 28, 2009 will be framed within this context and will permit us to further the long history of our mutual friendship. The French Air Force will participate in our commemoration with the presence of a 40 person military band and a 30 person honor guard.
